Effective Youth Volleyball Training at DigSetSpike

Unlock your child's potential in volleyball with coaching methods designed for today's young athletes!

At DigSetSpike, we offer interested youths the opportunity to learn and love volleyball. One of the motivations behind our clinics is to provide an "in" for young athletes to get an opportunity to play either club or high school volleyball. When kids pick up the sport at the U12 or U13 age groups, they get the chance to play and train with teams and coaches and improve their chances of playing at a higher level of competition as they grow. While starting earlier can provide advantages, we understand that many motivated athletes discover volleyball later. Our program is specifically designed to provide focused instruction and ample ball touches, enabling newcomers in the all age groups (e.g. U14 and U15) to quickly build foundational skills and develop the confidence to compete alongside their peers.

Up-to-date Coaching Philosophy

To give every young athlete the best possible foundation and opportunity, our coaching staff utilizes the latest evidence-based training methods, moving beyond traditional drills to approaches proven to build skills, decision-making, and a lasting passion for the game.

Ecological Approach (or eco-based approach) focuses on young athletes' dynamic interactions between them and their environment. Instead of isolated, repetitive drills, we create dynamic, game-like scenarios. This game-based approach focuses on the crucial interactions between players and the environment they'll face in a real game. Research consistently shows that this type of training significantly improves players' tactical awareness and decision-making skills under pressure, allowing them to react effectively in the unpredictable environment of a match. As the saying goes: "You don't rise to the occasion, you sink to the level of your training".

Long-term Athlete Development (LTAD) is a framework that aims to grow athletes holistically in a fun and supportive environment. Our commitment to your child's growth extends beyond immediate results through this framework. This holistic approach focuses on developing the complete athlete – physically, mentally, and emotionally – in a fun and supportive environment. Research supporting LTAD highlights that focusing on age-appropriate training and exposing athletes to a wide variety of movements and skills reduces the risk of burnout, minimizes injuries, and builds a stronger foundation for long-term participation and higher-level play. For younger age groups like U12 and U13, this means emphasizing fundamental skills and athleticism over early specialization, giving them the broad experience needed for future success in club or high school volleyball.

Keeping to Tradition

There are parts of volleyball coaching that we do keep to, even as we bring in the latest coaching philosophies.

Personal and player safety - We educate and ensure that all players building up good awareness of what they are doing and the activities going on around them. We require the use of appropriate safety equipment (e.g. knee pads). We help players know what they need to do to take care of themselves and their fellow players on the court.

Culture and rituals - As a team sport, volleyball is rich in tradition. Through simple gestures such as cheers and huddles, we help athletes build up more appreciation and camaraderie for their fellow players.

Join us today!
